Crown Jewels first at the Tower of London in October 2026
London, 잉글랜드

Adult entry to the Tower of London is £37 booked online and £38 bought at the gate. Allow three hours inside the walls, and give the Jewel House the first of them. A Yeoman Warder tour comes free with the ticket.

What you see inside the walls

You come in off the cobbles with the White Tower ahead of you, pale Kentish ragstone under four lead turrets capped like onions, the dry moat grassed over below the walls. The circuit takes you past Tower Green, where the ravens are. Three hours gets you the Jewel House, the White Tower and a Warder tour at a walking pace.

The Crown Jewels in your first hour

Go to the Jewel House before anything else and let the fortress wait. Photography is banned inside it, and inside the Chapel of St John in the White Tower. Put the phone away at both doors.

The Tower has no cloakroom. Carry only what you want to hold for three hours.

Yeoman Warder tours and the ravens on Tower Green

The Warders work the cobbles in dark blue and red undress uniform under a Tudor bonnet, and their tours run on a rolling basis through the day. You join the next one; nothing is booked. The last tour goes at 15:15, so arrive in the afternoon and you will miss it.

Inside the Fusilier Museum

The Fusilier Museum London (inside the Tower) is the room most visitors walk past, in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers headquarters building. Your Tower ticket already covers it. One galleried room holds glass cases of scarlet tunics, white-plumed fur caps and Victoria Crosses under tall sash windows. It has no wheelchair access, and no toilets or café of its own.

What entry costs and how to book

Children aged 5 to 15 pay £18.50. Seniors, students and disabled visitors pay £29.50, and residents of Tower Hamlets holding an Idea Store or Leisure Services card pay £1. Day tickets and guided tours operate seven days a week, with availability running from 11 October 2026 to 8 October 2027. Book online; the gate price is the higher of the two.

Is the Tower worth three hours

It suits a visitor who will walk a fortress slowly and wants the Crown Jewels seen properly, with daylight left over for the walls. It asks an early arrival and three hours you have not promised to anything else.

White Mulberries, London
White Mulberries, London

Make it a weekday morning. White Mulberries (Ivory House) opens at 07:30 on weekdays in the brick arches of the warehouse, with outdoor tables on the dock edge facing the moored boats. Coffee is £3 to £5 and brunch plates are £9 to £15. It is the nearest good coffee to the Tower, and the small room fills quickly.

St Dunstan-in-the-East Church Garden is eight minutes' walk from the Tower and open daily from 08:00 to 19:00, or dusk in winter. Come at the start of the day, while the roofless shell is quiet: vines smother the empty Gothic window tracery, Wren's pale steeple stands over the walls, and a small fountain sits on the flagstones between them. This is the most photographed free corner near the Tower, and it is small and hemmed in. Then walk back for the gate.

Over the road at All Hallows and Trinity Square

All Hallows by the Tower stands across the road from the Tower's exit, free to enter with donations invited. Steep stone spiral stairs drop into the undercroft, where a tessellated Roman pavement lies under glass beneath whitewashed barrel vaulting, with a Saxon arch built of reused Roman tile and Blitz scars on the fabric. Half an hour covers it, and nothing in the postcode costs less. It is a working parish church, and you book crypt talks ahead.

Trinity Square Gardens and Tower Hill Memorial is 30 seconds from Tower Hill station and open from 08:00 until half an hour before dusk, shut only on Christmas Day. A Portland stone vaulted colonnade carries bronze panels of Merchant Navy names, with a sunken second memorial garden behind it, plane trees overhead and the Tower's battlements over the wall. The public scaffold stood here. Entry is free, and it is the place to sit down after the fortress.

Tower Bridge and the Victorian Engine Rooms

Tower Bridge Exhibition is five minutes from the Tower's east gate, and nothing nearby contrasts with the fortress more sharply. The enclosed high-level walkway runs 42 metres above the Thames inside riveted blue steel lattice between Gothic granite towers, and a strip of glass floor looks straight down onto the red buses. Adult entry is £18 and concessions are £13.50. Children aged 5 to 15 pay £9, and under-5s go free.

Pre-booked tickets are not fast-track, so arrival time decides your wait. Give the Victorian Engine Rooms 20 to 30 minutes on their own. Groups of 15 or more pay a discounted rate and must pre-book on [email protected] or 020 7407 9191.

Across the bridge to HMS Belfast

Walk over Tower Bridge for HMS Belfast, a pale grey Royal Navy cruiser moored mid-river with triple 6-inch gun turrets trained ashore and Tower Bridge astern. Below deck you work down steep steel ladders through hatches into cramped painted mess decks. Wheelchairs cannot go, and tired small children struggle on the ladders. Budget half a day for the pairing with the Tower.

It opens daily from 10:00 to 18:00 with last entry at 17:00, and closes 24 to 26 December. Adult entry is £26.80, or £29.50 with the donation. Children aged 5 to 15 pay £13.40, or £14.75 with the donation, and under-5s and IWM members go free. Those rates hold from 2 September 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Lunch at St Katharine Docks

St Katharine Docks is five minutes east of the Tower's east gate and out of the river wind, an enclosed Georgian basin of moored sailing barges and white yachts. The brick Ivory House and its clock turret hold one side, with the towers of Tower Bridge above the rooftops. The quaysides are free to walk and keep no door policy. On Fridays the World Food Market sets up stalls, with plates at £8 to £14.

The Dickens Inn stands over the water on three timber-framed floors of a former warehouse, flower baskets cascading along every balcony and beams exposed inside, with tables on the balconies above the dock. It is touristy and makes no secret of it. Mains run £16 to £24, and the upstairs Poplars dining room does a set lunch at £19.95 for two courses and £23.95 for three.

The Monument and two free viewpoints

The Monument is nine minutes from the Tower and the cheapest high view in London. You buy tickets at the door on the day. Inside the fluted Doric column a narrow cantilevered spiral of 311 steps climbs single file to a caged platform under a gilded flaming urn, with no lift and no step-free route. Adults pay £7 and children aged 5 to 15 pay £3.50. Students and seniors pay £5.30, and under-5s go free. It opens 09:30 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00, with last entries at 12:30 and 17:30.

The Garden at 120, London
The Garden at 120, London

The Garden at 120 charges nothing for the best Tower-and-Tower-Bridge view in the City. The open-air terrace on the 15th floor has clipped wisteria trees and a 200-foot straight water rill, with the Gherkin, the Walkie Talkie and the Tower's turrets over the parapet. From 1 October the hours are 10:00 to 18:30 on weekdays and 10:00 to 17:00 at weekends, closed on bank holidays. Individuals need no booking. Groups of 12 or more must take a slot at 10:00, 11:00, 15:00 or 16:00 on a weekday, up to 40 people, with two weeks' notice, and not in school holidays.

Sky Garden is free as well, a three-storey glass barrel vault packed with tree ferns and purple agapanthus on terraced beds, the glazing running down the Thames to Tower Bridge. Timed tickets are released weekly, three weeks ahead, and they go the morning they drop. The site is running reduced capacity because of a lift outage, so check it before you build a day around it. A table at Darwin Brasserie or Fenchurch gets you in once the free slots have gone, with restaurant mains at £20 to £40.

Leadenhall Market in the rain

Leadenhall Market is 12 minutes north of the Tower, a cobbled arcade under a wrought-iron and glass roof painted maroon, bottle green and cream, with gilded cornices and lanterns hanging down the cross-aisles. Shops and pubs trade 10:00 to 18:00 on weekdays and most shut at weekends. Come on a weekday or you will walk through a beautiful empty shell. Walking through costs nothing, and food and drink run £5 to £20.

A pint at Tower Hill and a show in Wapping

The Hung, Drawn & Quartered is two minutes from Tower Hill, in a Grade II listed former bank with high ceilings, dark wood panelling, portraits of monarchs on the walls and a passage from Pepys on an execution painted up large. You end the day drinking at the scaffold site, on the theme you spent the day reading about. It opens Monday to Saturday 12:00 to 23:00 and Sunday 12:00 to 18:00, with food to 21:00 on weekdays and 17:00 on Sunday. A pint is £6 to £7 and mains are £15 to £22.

Wilton's Music Hall (Graces Alley) is 15 minutes east through Wapping, the oldest surviving grand music hall in the world, left unrestored on purpose. Lime plaster peels off the walls, a shallow balcony sits on barley-twist cast-iron columns, and the stage end is bare brick. The candle-lit Mahogany Bar occupies the old sailors' pub rooms off the alley and takes drop-ins before shows. A programme runs through October 2026, with tickets at £15 to £30 and drinks at £6 to £12. Book through the box office.
